The Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Samuel Sarpong, was born on November 10, 1957, at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
Dr Sarpong, a former Ashanti and Central Regional Minister, as well as Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2008-2012, hailed from Juabeng, one of the farming communities in the Ashanti Region.
Dr Sarpong was the Ashanti Regional Minister from January 22, 2013, and was later made the Central Regional Minister from March 11, 2013 to July 2014.
He was the first of seven children born to his parents, who were both teachers.
Dr Sarpong began his childhood education at the age of seven at Owabi L/A Primary School in Ashanti, before gaining admission to Osei Tutu Senior Secondary School in 1973.
He obtained his General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Certificate in 1978, and upon completion, undertook a three-year teacher training education at Wesley College in Kumasi.
Dr Sarpong was a sports teacher at Juabeng Senior High School between 1981 and 1984.
He held a doctorate degree in Development Studies.
