Presby University graduates 814

The Presbyterian University, Ghana, has held its 19th congregation, graduating a total of 814 students, with a call on them to become positive change makers in society.

The ceremony, held at the university's Okwahu campus in Abetifi-Kwahu last Thursday, saw the conferral of degrees on 119 First Class, 424 Second Class Upper, 260 Second Class Lower, and 11 Third Class graduates.

Addressing the graduates, the Chancellor, Rt Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare-Kwakye, who is also the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, emphasised that true education extends beyond academic credentials.

“Education is not just about acquiring degrees, but about shaping character, values, and purpose of the individual," he stated.

Commitment to mission

He affirmed that the university has remained committed to its mission of developing "disciplined, principled and knowledgeable leaders who will transform society," urging the new graduates to "consistently choose integrity, lead with purpose, and inspire others in doing what is right even under difficult circumstances."

Rt Rev. Dr Opare-Kwakye also announced that the university had received accreditation for five new graduate programmes.

These are MSc Cyber Security, MBA Human Resource Management and Development, MSc Organisational Leadership and Management, MSc Strategic Management and Corporate Strategy, and MSc Project Planning and Management.

He highlighted the success of the Faculty of Law, noting that about 50 of its alumni had been called to the Bar in the last three years.

“This is a remarkable achievement that demonstrates the high academic standards and integrity that define this university," he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Ofosu-Anim, commended the graduates for their resilience and intelligence, encouraging them to let the university's core values of excellence, discipline, commitment, integrity, and faith in God guide them.

“Your commitment will be tested. There will be long nights, difficult projects, and seemingly unrewarding tasks.

It is in these moments that your character will be forged,” Prof. Ofosu-Anim told them.

He further advised the graduates to become leaders in combating environmental pollution and degradation, stating that the future of the country "rests not only in the hands of politicians but in the hands of the educated, the skilled and the empowered."
