Repair works are steadily ongoing to fix the exposed expansion joints of the Atomic Flyover on the N4, popularly referred to as the Legon-Adenta Road.

Already, work on the portion of the stretch from the Atomic Junction to Legon is going on in earnest, and opened to traffic during the rush hours, after it was initially closed from last Friday to Sunday.

It is being executed by the Ghana Highways Authority, which announced a temporary closure and diversion of the Atomic Junction overpass in Accra from October 3 to 22, 2024, for a repair of the exposed expansion joints.

The temporary closure and diversion will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily within the period from October 3 to 22.

When the Daily Graphic toured the site last Monday, it was observed that the authority had begun filling the gaps in the joints, which had been badly exposed.

The coverings of the expansion joints are meant to ensure a smooth surface for vehicles.

However, it is not clear if the metal coverings came off by themselves or they were deliberately removed, as they have been off on both sides of the road, creating discomfort and fear for drivers who have to slow down as if hitting a pothole to avoid damaging the tyres or hitting a bump.
