Ronor Motors partners Chinese company to promote electric vehicles

An indigenous Ghanaian automobile trading company, Ronor Motors Ghana Limited, has entered into a partnership with a Chinese automobile manufacturer, ROX Motor, to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country.

Under the partnership, Ronor Motors will be the sole agent of ROX Motor electrical vehicles such as the ROX 01, a mid-to-large hybrid SUV, in Ghana and West Africa.

Ronor Motors is also seeking to leverage the new partnership to further explore other ventures in electric vehicles, including the building of charging stations and the provision of technical expertise.

The strategic partnership is expected to support the country’s drive to reduce fuel emissions and move towards a greener and more environmentally friendly mode of transport, helping to reduce a contributory factor to global warming and climate change.

The partnership was signed at the Head Office of Rox in Shanghai, with the CEO of Ronor Motors, Atta Frimpong Addo, signing on behalf of his company while Nichol Lee, a representative of ROX Motors, signed on behalf of the Chinese Company.

Also present at the signing ceremony was James Tachie-Menson, the Managing Director of Ronor Motors.

Boost investment

Mr Addo said the new partnership would boost investments in green and sustainable projects in the country and also had the potential to position Ghana as a hub of electric vehicles in West Africa.

He said with the transportation sector identified as one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, more action needed to be taken to promote green initiatives in the sector.

“The UN Sustainable Goals see climate change as a serious challenge facing mankind and therefore calls for urgent action to tackle the issue.

This new partnership is therefore not only a business decision but a move to help protect the environment,” he added.

He said many countries were encouraging the use of electric vehicles not only because they were environmental-friendly but also due to their cost-effectiveness.

“Electric vehicles improve fuel economy and lower fuel costs. Electric vehicles can reduce fuel costs dramatically because of the high efficiency of electric-drive components. Because all electric vehicles and PHEVs rely wholly or partly on electric power, their fuel economy is measured differently than that of conventional vehicles,” he added.

Mr Addo described the new electric vehicles, which would be sold by his outfit under the deal, as a good fit for the Ghanaian market, adding, “the ROX 01, a mid-to-large-sized SUV with off-road styling, is set to revolutionise the Ghanaian and West African markets.”

He announced that the company would soon open a new multi-purpose showroom to continue extending its services to many more people.
