TDC to expand affordable housing nationwide
TDC Ghana Ltd has announced plans to expand its affordable housing project beyond Tema in the Greater Accra Region, with a goal to deliver a minimum of 2,000 two-bedroom houses annually.
The project, which aims to bridge Ghana's housing deficit, would feature integrated communities with schools, healthcare facilities, police stations, markets, and other social amenities.
The Managing Director of TDC, Courage Nunekpeku, disclosed this on Thursday, September 4, 2025, when he hosted a media engagement to provide updates on the progress of works being executed by the company.
He said TDC has received support from the Ministry of Works and Housing, with the sector minister releasing lands in some regions, including Western, Central, Eastern and Asante Regions for the expansion project.
Mr Nunekpeku said the company was also in the process of securing lands in Ada, Prampram, Afienya, all in the Greater Accra Region, as part of TDC's long-term vision for sustainable urban growth in Tema and across Ghana.
"With the expansion of our mandate, we are committed to making housing affordable for all Ghanaians," the MD emphasised.
He said the company plans to introduce modern elements such as green building technologies and sustainable energy solutions, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship.
Kpone Affordable Housing
During a tour of the Kpone Affordable Housing Project site in Community 26, Mr Nunekpeku said TDC has made significant progress in its affordable housing project at Community 26, adding that the project had already delivered over 1,000 housing units in phases one to three, adding that Phase four was currently underway, with 800 units slated for delivery by April next year.
He noted that while some contractors were ahead of schedule, others were lagging behind.
Mr Nunekpeku said to ensure timely completion, TDC has ensured that the various contractors have had sufficient cash flow to purchase materials and also provided buffer stocks of cement, iron rods and ready-mixed concrete to support contractors.
He added that TDC has also installed boreholes to supply water to contractors, eliminating delays.
Collaboration
Mr Nunekpeku said TDC was working closely with government agencies, financial institutions, and private partners to ensure the project's sustainability and affordability.
The Managing Director of TDC expressed his determination to ensure that the affordable housing project benefitted the intended beneficiaries.
"With the TDC's commitment to providing affordable housing, Ghanaians can look forward to improved access to decent and affordable housing through flexible payment arrangements that go beyond traditional mortgage and instalment plans.
