The 2025 National Best Farmer, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, has said he would share the honour of the award with all hardworking farmers and other workers.
He said there was dignity in farming.
In an appreciation speech upon receiving the award, Opanyin Adusei urged all Ghanaians to renew their sense of patriotism and work with great zeal and enthusiasm to feed the population and bring food security and honour to the nation.
The 82-year-old farmer said he had won various agricultural awards in the past, but he was humbled by the latest award, the biggest in his farming career.
He said he would continue to till the soil to serve humanity so long as he remained strong.
Opayin Adusei is highly regarded in his community for his benevolence.
He has provided treated water to farmers in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District and constructed a two-bedroom house for a needy woman in the area.
Opanyin Adusei also single-handedly roofed the Odumaa Palace and provided separate sets of furniture for the local police station and the clinic.
In addition, the farmer has also given scholarships to many brilliant needy students across the country, with some rising to PhD level, some of them attaining the status of medical doctors and chartered accountants.
He won the National Best Crop Farmer in 2020; Best District Farmer in 2021; Best Rice Farmer in 2020, National Best Cocoa Farmer in 2013 and Regional Best Cocoa Farmer in 2009.
Opanyin Adusei also won the Regional Best Farmer in 2007, and was adjudged the District Best Farmer in 2001 and 2003.
He is a member of the World Cocoa Farmers Association.
Other awardees
Cecilia Addae from Sankore District in the Ahafo Region was adjudged the Most Enterprising Female Cocoa Farmer.
Aminatu Sulley from West Mamprusi in the North East Region emerged the National Best Sheanut Picker.
The award for the National Best Coffee Farmer was received by Kwasi Gyan from Techiman District in the Bono East Region.
The National Best Fisheries Extension Officer in the Northern Zone went to Israel Hanson Arthur from Kintampo in the Bono East Region, while the same award for the Southern Zone was claimed by Esther Boateng from Adansi in the Ashanti Region.
Meanwhile, Margaret Ahadjitse from Bantama Mbofrakyinu in the Central Region was adjudged the National Best Fish Processor.
Still in the Fisheries and Aquaculture category, Kofi Adukpo from Abodwesekrom in the Bono East Region was named the National Best Inland Fisher, while Richard Ditton from Kongo in Upper East Region took the award for National Best Fish Farmer.
Clement Sewornu from Ketu South District in the Volta Region was honoured as the National Best Marine Fisher.
