Ghana Election 2024: Vote ‘Number 1’ on December 7 - Dr Bawumia tells electorate

The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the electorate to vote “Number 1” in the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7 this year.

Dr Bawumia, who was addressing spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai in the Ablekuma Central Constituency in Accra yesterday, consequently asked Ghanaians to stick with the NPP.

“I have been to over 270 constituencies and 16 regions. What I have witnessed here today tells me by close of day on December 7, we will hear Jefferson Sackey has won as the new Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma Central and the NPP has won the presidential election,” he said.

Describing former President John Mahama as a failed President, Dr Bawumia said while the provision of chalk for schools was a problem under his government, conditions had improved today, with tablets and laptops being distributed to students and teachers.

He said the NPP had also added to the 37 ambulances it met in the system in 2017, with the country now boasting over 300 ambulances.

He said when the “Agenda 111” hospital projects were completed; 70,000 people would be employed.

Prayer centre

The NPP flag bearer, who had earlier visited the Mallam Atta Market in the Ayawaso Central Constituency in Accra, later visited the Hebron Prayer Centre at Medie in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region, where he and his entourage were ushered into the packed-to-capacity auditorium amid deafening cheers, singing and dancing.

Dr Bawumia, who was accompanied by the NPP parliamentary aspirant for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Frank Annor Dompreh, and the NPP parliamentary candidate for Amasaman Constituency, Yahaya Kassim Atta, announced a support of 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of sugar and GH¢100,000 cash to the centre.

He made a special prayer request from the centre, saying it was God who elected leaders and so in all things it was important to seek the face of God.

Making reference to the Holy Bible, the NPP presidential candidate said: “When God does not build a house, the builder builds in vain”.

That, he said, was because “With God all things are possible, and his ways are not our ways”.

“You have all seen the work we have done in the last eight years. I want you to support me with prayers because we are not done yet. I am coming to protect the free SHS,” he stated, about the free senior high school policy.

A leader of the centre, Elder Frank Donkor, led the congregation to pray for Dr Bawumia and his entourage.
 

Policies

Prior to addressing the spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai in the Ablekuma Central Constituency, Dr Bawumia held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Spare Parts Dealers Association, after which he took time to explain his policies such as the flat tax rate regime he has proposed to bring comfort to traders and importers.

The Vice-President reiterated that each foot of imported container would come with specific flat taxes, explaining that the measure would sanitise imports and make it easier for importers to clear their goods.

The NPP flag bearer further told the spare parts dealers that he would introduce a tax amnesty to ensure that all taxpayers began on a clean slate.

That, Dr Bawumia explained, was part of measures to enhance the ease of doing business.

While explaining the mobile money interoperability and the significance of the Ghana Card to the gathering, he indicated that the Ghana Card was an important national asset which had cleared all ghost workers from the government payroll.

He said the card would also aid in the acquisition of passports since all the information needed for filling out a form to acquire a passport was already embedded in the Ghana Card.

There were spontaneous cheers when he mentioned his digitalisation policy which he said was the way to go in the fourth industrial revolution.
