Zoomlion maintains clean streets for presidential inauguration
Zoomlion Ghana Limited has earned praise for its exceptional efforts in ensuring a clean environment in the lead up to the inauguration as well as during and after inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama.
The event marked the beginning of President Mahama's new term in office following his swearing-in on Tuesday, January 7,2025.
Days leading to the ceremony, Zoomlion began a beautifcation exercise at the Black Star Square and parts of Accra in readiness of the historic event.
To prepare the Black Star Square for the ceremony, Zoomlion deployed over 500 personnel to undertake a comprehensive clean-up and beautification exercise across the major
streets of Accra.
They transformed the Black Star Square into a stunning oasis, boasting beautifully landscaped artificial turf that complemented the majestic architecture of the Ghanaian Parliament.
The breathtaking result was a sight to behold.
Ceremonial streets
The workers also cleaned Accra’s ceremonial streets, decorated traffic lights and trees with the national colours, weeded road medians, swept streets, cleared drains and painted the
curbs for the ceremony.
The streets as of yesterday morning
The clean-up and beautification exercise ensured that the Black Star Square and the ceremonial streets of Accra were spotless and radiant for the historic inauguration ceremony.
Additionally, the company painted pavements and pedestrian walkways.
Zoomlion’s consistent contributions to Ghana's cleanliness and environmental sustainability have been hailed over the years as a dedication to the country's well-being.
Clean up
Also, during the ceremony, some personnel were deployed at the Square to maintain a clean environment and also directing members of the general public who had showed up to witness
the ceremony, to properly dispose of the waste they created.
A day after the ceremony, some personnel were again deployed to the Black Star Square to tidy up the place.
Last Wednesday when the Daily Graphic visited the Square, workers were seen taking off the canopies and also cleaning up.
Praise
Zoomlion's clean-up and beautification work have been lauded as “par excellence” by many who attended the event, including party faithful and other citizens..
“The environment looks clean.
I’m impressed with the tidiness of the environment,” an excited member of the public who gave her name only as Abigail said.
She said the environment of the Black Star Square was a fitting advertisement for the country in terms of sanitation and cleanliness.
Another person, Joseph Darko, said the clean environment across the streets could hardly be missed by anybody.
“The way and manner the venue was transformed into that classy space befitting Parliament as well as giving some royalty to the celebration was very
impressive.
It was a true national celebration with the unmissable red, yellow and green.
Also, the easy coordination for the seating arrangement was very well done,” another attendee, Serwaa Akoto, who had come from Kumasi to witness the event, said.
Black Star Square
Since Ghana’s return to constitutional rule in 1993, the Black Star Square has been the venue for the swearing-in of all the Presidents in the Fourth Republic, given the number of
guests who attend the ceremony.
However, in 2021, after the reelection of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he was sworn in at the forecourt of the Parliament House.
That exception, as explained by a Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Hadzide, was in response to an appeal by Parliament to have the swearing-in of the President-elect, a key function to
take place in Parliament as by law required, instead of the symbolic reconvening of Parliament at the Black Star Square for that particular event.
