Government continues to deliver on healthcare needs - Seth Terkper

“Government continues to deliver on the healthcare needs of our people from an expanded NHIL and allocations from the central budget,” the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Seth Terkper, has stated.

According to him, the government of Ghana continues to make significant investment in the infrastructure, equipment and personnel needs of the country’s health sector.

Mr Terkper was delivering the 2015 Budget Statement on Wednesday in parliament house, and indicated that the government of Ghana has vigorously embarkiee on various infrastructure projects to expand access to health care in all parts of the country.

These include;

  1. The 600-bed University of Ghana Teaching Hospital
  2. The 420-bed Ridge Hospital Expansion Project
  3. The 500-bed Military Hospital Project in Kumasi
  4. The Second phase of the Tamale Teaching Hospital after the completion of the 400-bed first phase of the project
  5. The Police Hospital Project
  6. The Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua-Kumasi, and
  7. The Upper West Regional Hospital

The Finance Minister also pointed out that in the quest to expand access to health care; 19 out of the 21 health centres have been completed.

He also emphasized that under the National Hospital Equipment Replacement Programme, the government of Ghana is providing modern hospital equipment to enhance healthcare delivery. This initiative, according to him, has ensured the construction and equipping of New MRI and CT Scan Centres in the Komfo Anokye and Tamale Teaching Hospitals.
