Government to release helicopter crash report on Tuesday

The government has announced that the findings of the August 6 military helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives including two cabinet ministers, will be made public at a media briefing on Tuesday.

The Minister in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said in a Facebook post on Sunday [November 9, 2025].

He said the report will first be presented to the National Security Council on Monday, before its release to the public.

The helicopter crash resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Muniru, NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, and NADMO Deputy Director-General Samuel Aboagye, together with three crew members.

The Z-9 utility helicopter went off radar on the morning of August 6, 2025 while flying from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

A 30-day investigation board chaired by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, with technical advisers from the United States Air Force, was constituted to investigate the incident.

In what Mr. Ofosu called “a very important week coming up,” President John Dramani Mahama is expected to launch the Nkoko nkitinkiti poultry programme also in Kumasi on Wednesday.

The initiative seeks to engage 55,000 households in poultry production as part of efforts to reduce Ghana’s annual import bill of about $300 million on chicken, which currently meets 95 percent of the country’s consumption.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson will present the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

The budget is expected to outline measures for job creation, stimulate economic growth, and introduce tax reforms, including a proposal to reduce the VAT rate from 22 percent to 20 percent.

The 2026 Budget will be closely watched as Ghana prepares to exit the IMF programme in May 2026, with particular attention on how government intends to manage the fiscal deficit and debt service obligations.
