Other members of the board who visited the company were Hajj Mohammed Amir Kpakpo Addo, Ben Assorow, Eric Oduro Osae and Nana Asantewa Afadzinu.

They were taken round the various units and departments by Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, the Managing Director of GCGL.

The five-hour  tour took the delegation to the Newspapers Department, Finance Department, Adverts and Marketing Department, G-PAK, a subsidiary of the company, Public Affairs and the Graphic Press House.

Other departments visited by the board members were the Human Resource Department, the Website unit, the Transport Department, the Graphic Clinic, the Mirror House and the Sales Department.

The board members were briefed by the various departmental and unit heads on the specific functions of their entities.

Some of the heads also used the opportunity to make known their challenges to the board for redress and made some requests as well.

For his part, the General Manager of G-PAK, Mr James Dadzie, indicated that the packaging business was not doing well because India and China had taken over the market and were charging cheaper rates due to some exemptions they enjoyed.

At the Editorial Department, the Director of Newspapers, Mr Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh, who briefed the board, said efforts were being made to merge some of the units which were doing the same work in order to ensure efficiency.

Concerns

Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, Managing Director of the company, who gave an outline of the activities of the GCGL, talked about initiatives being taken to ensure the effective use of the company’s assets.

He said some old machines that had since been replaced were being offered for sale.

Mr Ashigbey added that building of the capacity of the staff was a major priority to ensure that they worked effectively.

“Thank you”

The Board Chairperson, Dr Dartey, expressed gratitude to the workers of the GCGL for their contribution to the success of the company.

“We thank the staff of the company for the good work they are doing. We appreciate their efforts and we hope that as we have started a new year they will continue with the good work,” she said.

She described the visit as a successful one and had helped to highlight some of the challenges which needed redress to make the work of the staff efficient and effective.

She encouraged the workers to be bold to always make known all their challenges and concerns, using the channels provided by the system to ensure smooth operations.

A board member, Mr Ben Assorow, said he was impressed with the company’s efforts over the years in terms of its infrastructure and human resource.

He urged the staff to work hard to promote the company’s further development as well as that of the nation.
