Graphic honours former MD
A former Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), previously kown as Graphic Corporation, Mr Mathias Kwami Worlana Ofori, has been honoured by the company on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Pioneer of the Graphic Packaging Limited (G-Pak)
Mr Ofori was also a pioneer of the Graphic Packaging Limited (G-Pak), a subsidiary of the GCGL.
The company presented him with a citation and a cheque for GH¢1,000 last Saturday, at a birthday party at his residence in Accra.
In attendance at the party was a former editor of the Daily Graphic, who was also a board chairman and acting General Manager of (Graphic Corporation) GCGL, Mr Isaac Eshun, who celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of GCGL, Mr Albert Sam, who made the presentation on behalf of the management and staff of the company, said Graphic acknowledged Mr Ofori’s efforts and contribution to the growth of the company.
Celebrating heroes
The Managing Director of GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, in a speech read on his behalf, said the philosophy of the company was to celebrate its heroes while they were alive in order to encourage the current and future generations to work harder for the company.
He added that Mr Ofori would always be remembered by the Graphic family for his contribution to the establishment of the company in 1950 .
“It is also a credit to both Messrs Ofori and Eshun that their former place of work remains the leading media organisation in the country and also the only state owned media establishment that pays dividend to the state annually,” he stated.
National interest
Mr Ofori urged the new generation of journalists to always promote the national interest and help keep the country united by ensuring good journalistic practices.
He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Graphic, which started as an independent paper to serve the interest of the people, continues to play its role in that respect.
Life at Graphic
Mr Ofori joined the GCGL, then known as the West African Graphic Company Limited, in 1950 when the company was established by the Mirror Group of England,
He started as a costing clerk and rose through the ranks to become the first commercial printing manager and later the Executive Director of Commercial Printing in 1959. Mr Ofori later became the Managing Director from 1967 to 1970.
