Health Ministry settles salaries for 321 pharmacist house officers, pledges payment for rotation nurses
The Ministry of Health says it has completed the processing of salary payments for 321 pharmacist house officers who concluded their housemanship programme in 2024.
The Ministry says this step addresses part of the long-standing financial obligations owed to healthcare workers in Ghana.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Deputy Director and spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr Tony Goodman, said the payments mark progress in clearing arrears that have affected healthcare professionals nationwide.
Mr Goodman acknowledged that salary payments for the 2024 batch of rotation nurses and allied health interns remain outstanding.
These interns, who started their rotations in May 2024 and completed them in May 2025, have yet to be paid because financial clearance was not secured by the previous administration before their postings.
“The delay stems from the inability of the previous government to secure the necessary financial clearance for these interns before the commencement of their rotations,” the statement said.
Mr Goodman added that the Ministry is working with relevant government agencies to speed up the clearance process to enable prompt payment of salaries for the affected nurses and allied health interns.
He explained that this move is part of wider efforts to resolve arrears across all categories of health workers and to support professionals delivering health services across the country.
The Ministry assured the unpaid nurses and interns that their concerns are being treated as a matter of urgency, with plans in place to establish a system that will prevent future delays.
