Help govt to support orphanages

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Peter Anarfi-Mensah, has appealed to corporate Ghana and other well-meaning Ghanaians to complement government’s effort at providing the needs of children in orphanages.

He explained that although it was the government’s responsibility to provide the needs of homes, complementing its effort would ease the burden on the nation’s kitty which was usually over-stretched due to over-dependence by various institutions and agencies.
Mr Anarfi-Mensah disclosed this to the press after he had presented items worth GH¢6,100 to inmates of the Kumasi Children’s Home.

Items

The items included rice, cooking oil, diapers, toilet rolls, key soap, mackerel, biscuits, assorted soft drinks, toiletries, confectionaries and biscuits.

The presentation was done on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama to the children to commemorate the 55th Republic Day celebration.

He pledged the government’s continuous support to the home to help improve the lives of the children and management of the home.
Mr Anarfi-Mensah lamented the behaviour of some parents, leading to the abandoning of children which usually made them suffer unduly.

He cautioned the youth to desist from premarital sex and learn a trade to make them economically empowered before they give birth so that they could take good care of themselves.

The Supervisor of the Kumasi Children’s Home, Madam Victoria Asamenya, commended the government for the support but appealed for the provision of a bus to help transport the children and staff to field trips and other educational tours.
