The Tema General Hospital has benefitted from an intervention that will make the hospital a malaria-free environment, and will prevent the invasion of bedbugs and cocroaches  for up to two years.

An initiative of Inesfly Africa, an insecticides solutions manufacturer, the exercise would  fight the insects through the application of its  Inesfly technology which kills insects such as mosquitoes, cockroaches and bedbugs while protecting humans from vector-borne diseases such as malaria for up to two years.

The Out-Patients Department (OPD) and the maternity ward were painted with Inesfly paint that kills bedbugs, while benches and other interior materials were treated with the company’s bedbug solution.

In the past, the Tema hospital had complained of the invasion of bedbugs and cockroaches with the attendant discomfort to patients and staff.

Company commended

Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, the Medical Director of the hospital, told officials of the company during an inspection tour of the hospital last Tuesday that the exercise had been successful.

He spoke about the problem posed by bedbugs, saying it was a major challenge to the hospital, and commended the company for the support.

He indicated that his vision was in line with that of the hospital, which was to ensure that clients received the best of care in a comfortable environment and improved infrastructure.

He said management was undertaking renovation, painting and other activities, some of them with the support of corporate institutions.

The medical director expressed the hope that the collaboration with Inesfly would continue to yield dividends.

Delight

The Chief Communications Officer of Inesfly Africa, Ms Olivia Asiedu-Ntow, expressed delight about the successful completion of the exercise at the hospital.

Touching on the important role the hospital plays in health delivery in the Tema metropolis and nearby communities, she said, “We at Inesfly Africa feel such a hospital needs the assistance and cooperation of not just the government but of corporate Ghana to help relieve some of the stress they face.”

“Bedbugs are an issue in many places and so are cases of malaria and we believe that prevention is always better than cure,” she said.

Collaboration

The Chief Executive Officer of Inesfly Africa, Mr Michael Sjodin, said the last thing that any pregnant mother would think about during a visit to the hospital was to carry home bedbugs and malaria.

“Keeping mothers and all patients safe from bedbugs and malaria, and being in an environment which is conducive to better health go a long way in ensuring a better tomorrow,” he said.

Speaking about the benefits of  the collaboration with the hospital, the CEO said, “We believe in collaboration because that is where innovation comes from.”
