Muntaka urges modesty and peaceful coexistence in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations
The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has urged Muslims, particularly the youth, to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with modesty and avoid actions that could disrupt national peace.
In a Facebook post marking the occasion, he emphasised the importance of upholding the spiritual significance of Ramadan beyond the fasting period, calling on Muslims to continue practising self-discipline and devotion.
“Our youth, I want to remind you that Eid is an opportunity for us to reflect on the 29 days of fasting. The fasting that we have made so much sacrifice. We’ve denied ourselves food, we’ve denied ourselves a lot of comfort, we’ve given out a lot of alms, we’ve supported the needy, we’ve done a lot to support our communities. Let’s not take all these deeds and throw them into the dustbin just because of the Eid day celebration,” he stated.
Muntaka also reminded Muslims to be considerate of others while celebrating, particularly their non-Muslim neighbours.
“Let’s remember in our celebration we need to be modest. In modesty, we should also remember that we have neighbours who are not necessarily Muslims. And in our festive mood, let’s make sure we don’t disturb the peace of our neighbours,” he added.
Additionally, he appealed to communities experiencing conflicts to set aside their differences and embrace peace, emphasising that national unity is crucial for progress.
Delivering his Eid-ul-Fitr message, he urged Muslims to foster peaceful coexistence with their neighbours, regardless of religious differences.
The Interior Minister further called on the Muslim community and Ghanaians at large to support and pray for President John Dramani Mahama and his government as they work to fulfil their promises to the nation.
