IPR to train communicators

The Institute of Public Relations (IPR) has decided to roll out a training programme to educate political communicators and other stakeholders in communication skills.

The programme will help the communicators to discharge their mandate, taking into consideration the ethics of the profession.

The President of IPR, Mrs Elaine Sam Kwami, made this known at the investiture of the 2015/2016 executive council of the Institute in Accra last Tuesday.

Mrs Kwami said as much as communicators were bent on gaining political points, some of their utterances could inflame passion and cause conflicts.

“These political communicators want to build a good image for themselves and their parties to gain political credit but do not realise the implications of their action,” she said.

Illegal practitioners

Touching on weeding out illegal public relations officers (PROs) from the system, Mrs Kwami said the institute would continue in its effort to maintain the integrity of the institute.

“Some companies use all sorts of people as PROs without consulting the IPR to ascertain their professional status,” she said.

She gave an essurance that the new council would endeavour to address the IPR’s issue from where the old executive council left off, adding that the support of the members was needed to make the term of office of the new executive council successful.

A representative of the Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Gifty Dekyem, who swore in the executive, challenged them to work hard and make the interest of the IPR their priority.
