KMA guards undergo military training

One hundred city guards with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) are undergoing four weeks of military training  to build their capacities to make them more efficient and effective in the discharge of their duties.

The guards, who are in four batches, will undergo training in armed combat, self-defence, discipline and physical robust activity.

The exercise is anticipated to be rigid and is being conducted by officers of the 4th Battalion of Infantry of the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Besides engaging them in physical exercises, the guards will be educated on the bye-laws of the KMA and will be expected to write exam on them. Only those who pass will be re-engaged by the assembly.   

The self-improvement exercise was initiated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the KMA, Mr Kojo Bonsu. It follows allegations of extortion of money from traders by dishonest city guards.
