Korle Bu Maternity Dept closes theatres, recovery ward for renovation

The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has closed down the first floor theatres and recovery ward of the Maternity Department of the hospital for renovation works.

The renovation works, which have already started, are expected to be completed within a month.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Mustapha Salifu, said the Maternity Block of the hospital was currently managing a single theatre located on the second floor.

The statement explained that the renovation formed part of the major retooling of the hospital by the government under the National Equipment Replacement Project.

“The hospital wishes to assure the public that while scheduled operations will be affected by this initiative, the necessary arrangement is in place to ensure that patients who require emergency care are attended to.”

“Only dire emergencies should be refereed until the renovations are completed,” it stated.
