Kpandai: NDC youth take to streets over Supreme Court ruling

Members of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress in Kpandai on Monday took to the streets, calling on the party leadership to seek a review of the Supreme Court ruling that overturned a High Court decision which had annulled the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election won by the New Patriotic Party’s Matthew Nyindam.

The protesters marched through the main street of Kpandai, chanting “No Nsala, no NDC in Kpandai,” as they pressed their demand for decisive action from the party’s national leadership.

The protesters said the NDC must take a firm position as the governing party and reject the recent Supreme Court ruling unless it leads to a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency.

They called on the party leadership to apply for a review of the judgment and to enforce discipline among constituency executives, whom they accused of failing to properly represent the interests of party members.

According to the youth group, the protest was intended to protect the credibility of the party and to seek justice for its supporters in Kpandai.

Demand for review

Addressing the media after the protest march, leaders of the youth group called on the party’s national executive and legal directorate to file for a judicial review of the judgment once the full reasoning of the Supreme Court was made public on February 6, 2026.

In a press statement, the group said they had a strong legal case at the Tamale High Court.

According to them, the High Court judgment in favour of the NDC was based on “sound legal reasoning,” including alleged defective gazette notifications, inconsistencies in publication dates, and what they described as the failure of the Electoral Commission (EC) to discharge its constitutional duty of neutrality.

Despite the strong demands, the youth group emphasised their commitment to peace and constitutionalism, urging supporters to remain calm while the legal processes were pursued.

“We remain committed to peace, legality, and constitutionalism. But peace must never be confused with silence in the face of injustice. Kpandai deserves justice,” the group declared.
