Leaders urged to build on past foundations

Leaders have been urged to not abandon the foundations laid by their predecessors but build on them to promote national development.

The call was made by Rev. Felix Mensah Agbo, the outgoing Chairman of the Accra Presbytery of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), where he served as clerk for six years and four years as Chairman before carving the Tema Presbytery out of the Accra Presbytery.

At a hand over ceremony he said, “Paul founded the Church in Corinth while Apollos built on the foundation laid by Paul, so it is very important for leaders to build on what others have done.”

Rev. Agbo said as Jesus Christ was the solid foundation of the church, “we should therefore make every effort in our discipleship drive to point others to Christ and not ourselves.”

He said the hand over ceremony had became necessary because the constitution of the Church stated that fresh elections should be conducted at the 2015 Presbytery Conference, resulting in a change in all but one office.

Reason for handover

For the Accra Presbytery, the executive who took office were: Rev. Mawuli Dzidula Agudogo, Presbytery Chairman; Rev. Dr Michael Alloteh, Presbytery Clerk; Presbyter Senyo Agbeko, Treasurer; Synod Committee Member, Presbyter Victoria Norgbey and Catechist Richard Mensah, Catechists’ Representative Member.

The interim executive for the newly created Tema Presbytery are Rev. Samuel Oyete Attu, Chairman; Rev M. K. Akiti, Clerk; Capt Daniel Deynu, Presbyter; Mrs Victoria Modzaka, Presbyter; Mr Michael Deyegbe, Catechists’ Representative and Mr Obuo Franklin, Treasurer.

Speaking on behalf of the Accra Presbytery executive, Rev. Agudogo pledged “to respect and uphold the constitution of the Global Evangelical Church and to discharge our duties without fear or favour,” and added that they would foster unity at all levels and operate an open-door policy.

Rev. Attu, who spoke on behalf of the newly created Tema Presbytery, said the splitting up of the presbytery was to make the administration of the large Accra Presbytery manageable and efficient and provide the opportunity for accelerated growth and expansion of the church in Accra and the Tema municipalities.
