Bawumia: Internal attacks aided NDC's 2024 Election strategy against NPP

Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has lamented the role internal party divisions played in the NPP’s defeat during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of his national Thank You Tour in Takoradi on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia noted that public criticisms from some NPP members were weaponised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the campaign.

"Unity is key in every group endeavour but for the 2024 elections we faced internal issues," Dr. Bawumia said.

He recounted that certain comments made by NPP members against their own party and government were seized upon by the NDC, who "played back these words by our own members against us through series of adverts in the media."

"They used the words against us and if the attack is coming from your own members, you can imagine the effect," he added.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that the lack of a united front seriously undermined the party’s efforts and contributed to its electoral defeat.

He urged NPP stakeholders to prioritise unity going forward, warning that ongoing internal bickering would continue to derail the party’s objectives if not properly addressed.

The Thank You Tour is expected to take Dr. Bawumia to various regions across the country as he engages party faithful and reflects on the lessons of the 2024 electoral loss.
