Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey in his 2014 Christmas message said the canker had weakened the effectiveness of public institutions, undermined economic stability in the country.

Below is the full statement:

Let us not Corrupt the Peace!

A major theme of the Christmas story is Peace. The song sung on the First Christmas night when Jesus was born was a ‘song of peace’—“Peace on Earth and goodwill toward all people” (Luke 2:14). Centuries before He was born, the Prophet Isaiah described Jesus as the “Prince of Peace.”

That is why on every Christmas Day, wherever we are, we also sing peace and talk about peace. People go to Church this Day to hear the words of peace, sing the carols of peace, and proclaim the message of peace, not only to our fellow citizens, but also, to the whole world.

With the majority of our people in this Country claiming to be followers of Christ Jesus—the Prince of Peace—we ought to have known and experienced peace. But it appears peace has eluded us as a people. However, the Gift of Christmas tells us that all hope is not lost; there is hope for us as a people if we are able to embrace the true meaning of Christmas.

Let us Hoot at Corruption!

We must celebrate this Christmas like we have never done before. Let us rise up and hoot at corruption that has brought our Country so low to its knees because that canker has the potency of wiping out extraordinary possibilities for our young democracy.

Let us rise up as a people and hoot at corruption which has weakened the effectiveness of our public institutions; undermined economic stability and has become detrimental to genuine foreign investments and development.

Let every Ghanaian stand up and hoot at corruption to build Ghana; for Ghana can only be built by the people of Ghana. It is only the people of Ghana who will take stance against corruption. Let us rise up and repent by hooting at corruption this Christmas and set Ghana free one more time!

Let us thank God for the Gift of Christmas when God is offering us anew, the most abiding of all gifts—true peace which is only found in Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Ghana is therefore lucky for the Gift of Christmas because the equation would be completely changed as we allow Jesus to come into the agenda. At this Christmas, the Prince of Peace brings you peace and brings Ghana peace. Time has therefore come to throw away all the worries and negative thoughts about corruption going on in Ghana and cast every burden unto Jesus who will care for us.

At this Christmas, God is offering us Peace. Have peace with yourself and with your neighbour. Let us therefore hoot at corruption and start building the peace we need. Merry Christmas!
