Mahama in Togo to determine level of election preparation

President John Dramani Dramani Mahama will travel to Lome, Togo Monday morning, to continue his consultation with key political stakeholders ahead of the country's elections this month.

Togo's election, originally slated for April 15, 2015 was postponed to April 25, 2015 following recommendations by the Chair of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, President Mahama.

Speaking to reporters after a one day working visit to Lome in March, Mr. Mahama said, "as a result, ECOWAS proposes that the election is delayed by 10 days to allow the election list to be revised so everyone is satisfied."

A statement from the Flagstaff House Communication Bureau said Monday's consultations were to help ECOWAS determine the level of preparations and the satisfaction of the various political parties contesting the polls."

Visit to Abuja

The statement said from Lome, President Mahama will continue to Abuja, Nigeria, for meetings with the outgoing President of the Federal Republic, Goodluck Jonathan, and the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.).

 resident Mahama will also discuss the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which will be hosted by Nigeria in May.
