Make Ga Dangme language compulsory in Greater Accra schools - Group
A Ga social group, the Ga Dangme Hewaloi Hewamenya, has advocated respect and dignity for the Ga Dangme language.
The group also wants the Ga Dangme language to be studied in all basic and second cycle schools in the Greater Accra Region.
It is further demanding that all religious liturgies and social discourse in Ga Dangme communities are translated into Ga Dangme.

The Ga Dangme Hewaloi Hewamenya includes some eminent indigenes of Ga Dangme descent such as Mr Daniel McKorley of McDan fame and Ambassador George Lutteorodt, a former chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association(GAA).
Two decades
The convener for the group, Osofo Nii Naate Atswele Agbo Nartey, made the suggestion at a press conference held at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra last Saturday, to discuss pertinent issues concerning the Ga mashie state.
“We are seeking to revive the Ga Dangme language and would want to see all places of worship, including churches and mosques and traditional shrines in the Greater Accra Region, having their services translated into Ga Dangme to enable Ga Dangme children, teens and adults understand proceedings better and appreciate the language,” Osofo Nartey said.
Teachers
The group furthermore requested and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit Ga Dangme teachers from the University of Education Winneba to teach the Ga Dangme language in schools in the Greater Accra Region.
Public forum
The group has plans to hold a public forum and rally at the Black Star Square in Accra of all Ga Dangmes from all the traditional groupings, where a grand scheme would be laid to ensure that the Ga Dangme language was earnerly taught in classrooms in the Greater Accra Region.
