Cape Coast assault suspect in viral video arrested, to appear in court on Monday

The man seen in a viral video assaulting a woman has been arrested and is expected to appear before court on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The Central Regional Police Command has identified the suspect as Samuel Bills Acquah, 40.

He is alleged to have assaulted a 30-year-old woman at Bakano in Cape Coast.

In a press release dated Sunday, March 29, 2026, signed by Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie of the Public Affairs Unit, the Command said police received a report on March 27 at about 9:30pm that Acquah had assaulted the woman, with whom he shares a child. Officers proceeded to the scene after receiving the report and arrested him.

Acquah is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The arrest followed a statement issued hours earlier by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, which condemned the incident.

The Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, referred the matter to the Ghana Police Service for urgent investigation and action, noting that the Ministry had been unable to reach the victim.

The ministry also reminded the public that such acts are offences under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
