Masked gunmen kill farmer

A group of masked men has allegedly gunned down a 45-year old farmer, Osman Awudu, in his house at Nkwanta, near Salaga in the East Gonja District in the Northern Region.

The assailants, who went to the man’s house under the pretext of robbing him, fled the scene immediately they committed the crime.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the story to The Mirror, said Awudu and his wife were both asleep in their room when one of the robbers attacked and shot Awudu twice in the chest.

According to the PRO, Awudu’s wife shouted for help and neighbours came to her aid.

Awudu, he said, was then rushed to the Salaga Government Hospital but he died later.

ASP Tetteh said a post-mortem was conducted on Awudu and two pellets were removed from his body.

He has since been buried according to Islamic tradition.
