Gender Ministry investigates alleged sharing of intimate videos of Ghanaian women by 'Russian' national
The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has reacted to reports of a foreign national, said to be a Russian, who allegedly engaged in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women during a visit to Ghana, video recorded and circulated the acts without their consent on social media.
In a statement, the Ministry noted that while the individual may no longer be within Ghana’s jurisdiction, the seriousness of the conduct and the state’s responsibility to pursue accountability remain unchanged.
The non-consensual recording and distribution of intimate images is a criminal offence and a violation of dignity and privacy. The Ministry indicated it had already been working with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Innovations on measures to combat image-based sexual abuse, including digital safety interventions and mechanisms for content takedown.
The Ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, security institutions, and international partners to explore legal options, including cross-border cooperation. Support services, including psychosocial care and legal assistance, are being coordinated through confidential channels, it said.
The public is urged to exercise caution in online and offline interactions, it added.
