More organisations support flood, fire victims
Various organisations and institutions continue to support the flood and fire victims after the June 3 disaster in Accra.
The donations from the organisations are meant to give financial and medical support to victims who sustained various degrees of injury.

Nyaho
Nyaho Medical Centre, a private health delivery institution in Accra, has presented medical items worth GH¢20,000 to support victims of the June 3 fire disaster who are on admission at the 37 Military Hospital, reports Dominic Moses Awiah.
The items, which included gauze, cotton wool, face masks, bed mats, disposable gloves, bandages, infusion and pain medication, were to support the treatment of the victims who survived the fire which claimed more than 150 lives.
Presenting the items in Accra, the Managing Director, Dr Elikem Tamaklo, said the donation was carried out under the auspices of the Nyaho Dove Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the Nyaho Medical Centre.
He said the ward where the victims of the fire disaster were receiving treatment was named after the founder of the Nyaho Medical Centre, the late Col Dr K. N. Tamaklo.
According to Dr Tamaklo, when the management of the health institution heard about the June 3 fire disaster, “it automatically affected the morale of the health personnel on duty”.
Dr Tamaklo said the health institution would continue to strengthen its relationship with the 37 Military Hospital and called for mutual support in such times of need.
The acting Commanding Officer, Colonel Yeboah Agyapong, commended the management of Nyaho Medical Centre and called on other corporate institutions to follow suit.

EP Church
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana has donated items worth over GH¢8,000 to the victims of the flood, reports Sherifah Adams.
The items included toiletries, 12 bags of rice, 200 cartons of bottled water, cartons of cooking oil and a tanker full of treated water.
Members of the Meridian and West Volta Presbytery Synod of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church handed over the items to the Osu Klotey Sub Metro Council near Kwame Nkrumah Circle to be distributed to the persons affected by the disaster.
The Synod Moderator of the Meridian Presbytery, Rev. Dr Bliss Divine Agbeko, said the church was concerned about the disaster and so deemed it necessary to respond to the needs of the affected victims by sympathising with them.
The Metro Director of the Osu Klotey Metro Council, Ms Liticia Antwi, who received the items, commended the church for coming to the aid of the affected victims by donating the relief items.
One of the flood victims, Ms Jessica Money, who was at the presentation ceremony, praised the church for coming to the aid of the victims.
AGI
The President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Mr James Asare-Adjei, has urged the Central Government and Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to fix all drainage problems in the city to avert any further disaster.
He said this when the AGI and its partners presented GH¢20,000 and items worth GH¢50,000 to some affected fire and flood victims in the June 3 disaster in Accra.
Other members of the association were Almaganated Investment Limited, Zenith Plastics, West Africa Markets, Asadtek Group of Companies, Nestle Ghana Limited and Cosmos Foods Ltd.
The rest were Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd, Unilever Ghana Ltd, M & G Pharmaceuticals and Uni-Span Ghana Limited.
Mr Asare-Adjei said the government must ensure that contractors working on the roads in and around Accra speed up the process and also direct them to make quality roads to enhance development of the economy.
Presenting the items, he said the President of AGI expressed the hope that the gesture would bring some relief to the affected communities and, especially, to members of the AGI who were greatly affected during the disaster.
Brig Vib Sanziri, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator, thanked the AGI for the kind gesture and gave an assurance that it would go a long way to relieve the government of its burden.
Skyfalls
Skyfalls Natural Mineral Water, in collaboration with Star Micro insurance Service Limited, has donated 1000 bags of sachet water to support victims of the recent floods at Kaneshie and Nima in Accra.

The Managing Director of Jares Investment Global Limited, producers of Skyfalls Natural Mineral Water, said people who were covered by insurance stood to benefit a lot.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to insure their properties to enable them to put in claims during any disaster.
Guinness Ghana
Officials from the National Blood Service Ghana (NBSG) pitched camp on the Achimota premises of the Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd (GGBL) to undertake a blood donation exercise in support of the victims of the June 3 disaster.
The Corporate Relations Director of GGBL, Ms Preba Greenstreet, in a brief remark, said: “In commiserating with the victims, our employees are voluntarily donating to support the national effort.”

She said the exercise would be replicated at its Kaasi Brewery in Kumasi and it would set the tone for our commitment to donate twice a year to the NBSG.
“GGBL is working with the Association of Ghana Industries and the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry in other relief efforts, details of which would be shared at a later date”, she said.
The Head, Southern Area Blood Centre of the NBSG, Dr Paul Mensah, lauded GGBL for responding to the national call by donating and committing to support the NBSG with some of their products to refresh voluntary donors for one year.
