Nana Kwasi Osew Foundation launched to champion youth empowerment and community development
A bold new initiative aimed at reshaping the future of Ghana’s youth and communities was officially launched yesterday, April 10, at the British Council in Accra.
The Nana Kwasi Osew Foundation, founded by renowned Chartered Marketer and Management Consultant, Dr George E. Gyamfi-Osew, was unveiled at a well-attended ceremony that drew key stakeholders from government, traditional leadership, academia, and the private sector.
The launch marked a pivotal moment in the Foundation’s mission to empower young Africans through education, digital skills training, vocational development, and social welfare programmes—all aimed at fostering resilient and thriving communities across the country.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Gyamfi-Osew, also known by his stool title Nana Kwasi Osew, Okuapehene Sompahene, expressed his passion for supporting youth development and bridging the gap between opportunity and access.
“This is more of a calling. We all have the responsibility. Some may contribute their minds, their hearts, their money… but some way or the other, we are all responsible for molding our youth to be the leaders we want them to become,” he said in his address.
The Foundation’s strategy is built on three key pillars—education, economic empowerment, and social welfare.
Dr Gyamfi-Osew explained, “We aim to give scholarships, skill development, digital training and infrastructure development… Through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, micro finance programmes and employment services.”
Highlighting the relevance of these interventions, the founder lamented the growing rate of youth unemployment and its impact on social vices.
“They come to break into your house because we don’t have jobs. So these are some of the social things that we want to do,” he said.
Chairing the launch event was Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V, Chief of Adukrom and Nifahene of Akuapem, who praised the Foundation for responding to a national need.
“This Foundation stands as a catalyst for meaningful change, a force determined to bridge the digital divide,” he said.
“Let us not only celebrate it today, but support it continually—with our time, our resources, and our voices.”
The Foundation has assembled a distinguished leadership team comprising traditional leaders, business executives, academics, and media personalities.
Notable members of the advisory board include Pognaa Chaana Abdul Razak, Queen Mother of the Sing Traditional Area; Prof. Gostina Gabbey Malope of Toutele Agricultural University, South Africa; and Yaw Sakyi Afari, CEO of Rite Sports Services.
In a candid moment during a media interview, Nana Kwasi Osew further explained the motivation behind the Foundation’s strong emphasis on technical and vocational training: “If you look around, we keep on saying the youth are the future… but how are we molding them? How are we facilitating them to take the mantle after we leave the scene?”
He also revealed a unique focus on promoting women’s football as a means of youth empowerment.
“Everything should start from the bottom. If you look at the seed and water it properly, it will grow to become a big tree,” he said, outlining plans to support promising female players from secondary school level to tertiary education and beyond.
The launch ended with a fundraising session and a call to action for individuals and corporate organisations to partner with the Foundation. Guests and dignitaries later networked over refreshments.
