The Awutu Senya District Chief Executive, Mr Sampson Abbey Armah, said since the construction of the health centre about 45 years ago, it had not benefited from other projects to meet the health needs of the people.

He pointed out that the absence of the three wards had affected the operations of the centre since patients could not be admitted in order to be given proper medical care.

According to him, the government had, therefore, decided to undertake the project to put an end to the constant referral of cases.

Mr Armah said after the completion of the project, a laboratory, laundry, mortuary and others would also be constructed at the centre.

He appealed to the chiefs of the town to not sell the lands around the health centre, to ensure that its future expansion and upgrading to a polyclinic would not be a problem.

Tufuhen

The Tufuhen of the town, Nenyi Kwa Bentum IV, commended the government for the timely intervention since the absence of the wards had compelled most of the people to seek healthcare services in nearby hospitals.

He appealed to the contractor executing the project to expedite action for the project to be completed ahead of schedule.

Disease control officer

The District Disease Control Officer, Mr Clement Ackom Gyebi, expressed gratitude to the assembly and the government for the project since it was long awaited.

He urged the people in the area to patronise services at the health centre to facilitate the future upgrading of the facility.
