No lives were lost at Tema General hospital following power outage - Director

The Medical Director of the Tema General Hospital, Dr Richard Anthony, says no lives were lost at the hospital's Neonatal intensive Care Unit (NICU) following a two-hour power outage.

In a statement dated March 27, 2024, the Medical Director said the attention of the hospital had been drawn to a publication circulating on social media that some lives were lost at the facility, following a power cut from the national grid.

Giving a situational report over the said incident, Dr Anthony said the power outage incident happened on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, when the power from the national grid was interrupted, which compelled the facility to rely on its power plant.

He explained that the dedicated generator set to the Neonatal intensive Care Unit (NICU) also tripped off for a short period and the hospital's electricians worked to restore power to the unit until the national grid was restored.

"It must be emphasized that power was restored within two hours by the electricians at the facility," the Medical Director said, adding "It is worth noting that no lives were lost as a result of this power outage."

Dr Anthony pledged that the hospital will continue to put the health and safety of its patients at the core of its business.
