The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced plans to demonstrate against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the cancellation and withholding of results for some candidates of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The demonstration, scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, will commence at 9:00 AM from the Obra Spot in Accra.
In a statement issued on February 18, the President of NUGS, Daniel Korley Botchway, confirmed that the Union had officially informed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command about the planned protest.
The student body criticised WAEC’s handling of the results, arguing that thousands of students have been unfairly affected by the cancellations and delays.

According to the statement, even students whose results were later released faced significant challenges, as the delays made them ineligible for admission into public tertiary institutions, where the admission process had already concluded.
Additionally, students whose results were cancelled were unable to register for remedial exams, as WAEC had already closed registration on January 7, 2025, before releasing the results.
"This demonstration is a protest against what we see as an injustice and an abuse of discretionary power by WAEC," Mr Botchway stated.
He, therefore, called for immediate intervention to rectify the situation and ensure that students are given a fair opportunity to continue their education.
Mr Botchway also urged all affected students and stakeholders to join the demonstration in a united stand for justice.
