The scholarships presented under the Dormaaman Educational Endowment Fund have already benefited more 1,500 students over the last 16 years.

The gesture, according to managers of the scheme, had assisted needy but brilliant students in the traditional area to achieve higher academic laurels.

It was, therefore, no wonder that parents of the beneficiary students thronged the Abanpredease (palace of the Dormaahene) to witness the presentation of this year’s scholarships.

Address

Addressing the gathering, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu said the Dormaa Traditional Council attached importance to education, hence its efforts to ensure that needy students were not allowed to waste their talents because of lack of money.

He charged parents in the area not to waste their incomes on expensive funerals but rather invest in the education of their children since that was the surest ways to safeguard their future.

On development projects in the area, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu thanked the government for embarking on some road projects to enhance transportation in the area.

He said as a traditional chief, he stood for development and would therefore encourage and pat the back of any government which would bring development into his area.

Intemperate political utterances
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu reminded Ghanaians about this year’s general elections and charged political parties to avoid intemperate language during their rallies.

He used the occasion to honour this year’s national best farmer, Mr Ibrahim Musah who hails from the area.

He thanked him for working hard to bring honour to the traditional area and asked youth to emulate his example by going into farming.

On behalf of the chiefs and people of the area, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu presented an acre of land to Mr Musah for his feat.

Similarly, the Dormaa Student’s Union (DoSU) presented a citation to the national best farmer.

Dormaa Queenmother
In a welcoming address, the Queenmother of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Nana Kosua Fima Dwabeng told the beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme that the people in the area were looking up to them to use their knowledge to assist in the development of their communities in future.

Miss Susuana Yeboaa of the Sunyani Senior High School and Master Mr Eric Yeboa Kyereme of the University of Education, Winneba received their scholarship packages on behalf of the 114 beneficiaries.
