Pakyi No 2 kingmakers challenge businessman who claimed to have constructed boreholes for town

The eight kingmakers of Pakyi No 2 in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region and its citizens have challenged a businessman, Mr Andrews Osei-Bonsu, who is priding himself to have constructed and handed over mechanised boreholes to the people to show proof.

A delegation sent by the kingmakers to the Daily Graphic office in Kumasi led by the former Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Pakyi No. 2, Mr George Brobbey, said the boreholes were dug by both the assembly and a US-based businessman, Mr Solomon Adu-Boakye.

Indeed, since the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, destooled the chief in the area, Nana Kyei Asiamah Aduakwa II, in July last year there has been series of horse-trading and shadow-boxing with each of the four contestants likely to ascend to the throne claiming to have done one project or the other.

Elders worried

The elders were worried because they said the wrong impression by Mr Osei-Bonsu could send wrong signals to the Asantehene ahead of a planned meeting to select the next Pakyi No. 2 chief.

The former Chairman for the Concerned Citizens said the only thing Mr Osei-Bonsu had done was to place an overhead tank on the already constructed borehole which was dug by the assembly and Mr Adu-Boakye many years ago.

The assembly confirmed it had constructed a number of boreholes but could not deny or confirm Mr Osei-Bonsu’s assertion.

Mr Osei-Bonsu, in an earlier publication, alleged he had presented to the community two mechanised boreholes with overhead tanks, 12 street light bulbs, a set of female school vests for students of the Atwima Kwanwoma Girls Senior High School and other initiatives.

The kingmakers have written to the Asantehene to express their displeasure and called for a level playing field for the right person to be enstooled to transform the lives of the people.

In the letter, they alerted Asantehene that the said Queenmother, Nana Ama Mintaah, captured in a group photograph was fake and the substantive Queenmother, Nana Serwaa Amponsah, was currently residing in US.

Destoolment

Last year, the Asantehene destooled the then chief, Nana Kyei Asiamah Aduakwa II, for alleged illegal sale of land to a private developer without the appropriate procedure.

Since then, the town has been without a substantive chief and it is being governed by the kingmakers awaiting Otumfuo’s choice of who becomes the next chief.

The former Chairman, Mr Brobbey, urged the citizens of Pakyi to be calm and wait for the Asantehene’s instruction and should not take the law into their own hands.

He said such publications would not sway the minds of the kingmakers and only the one who qualified to be chief would be chosen.
