Participation of vulnerable groups in local governance; YOWE leads way
Some of the reasons given for the non-participation of minority groups in local governance include limited knowledge and awareness of local government systems, apathy and mistrust for grass-roots governance actors, fear of the local government actors and structures, limited capacity for engagement and, most importantly, the lack of innovative avenues or mechanisms for people to engage in local governance beyond elections.

STAR-Ghana/YOWE lauded
It is in this regard that the Youth and Women Empowerment (YOWE), a local-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the Eastern Region, must be lauded for the role it is playing to ensure effective participation of vulnerable groups in local governance.
With funding from Star-Ghana, YOWE has facilitated three Krobo Municipal and District Assemblies to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various associations of persons considered vulnerable and fully committing to integrating them in the local governance
