Past winners of the Journalist of the year award
The Ghana Journalist Association was established on August 15, 1949 at a time when politics in the then former British colony of the Gold Coast was at its peak and the minds of many media practitioners and ordinary citizens were filled with events of the ‘nationalist’ struggle.
One of the cardinal principles of the GJA is to promote the attainment of high professional standards, integrity and media accountability.
Under Article Three of its constitution on the Aims and Objectives, the association is required to among other things “to promote professionalism and high journalistic standards and reward and honour outstanding members periodically”.
The association organized its maiden awards ceremony in 1985 during the presidency of the late Edwin Tengey.
