Police beef up security for Easter festivities

The Police Administration has deployed a large number of its personnel to various places to beef up security for the Easter festivities.

The exercise is aimed at ensuring a congenial atmosphere before, during and after the Easter festivities.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday, the Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, said during Easter and all other festivities, commercial and other human activities in the central business area increased.

Criminal activities

He said criminals always took advantage of the situation to perpetrate criminal acts, particularly against the travelling public.

Supt Arthur said to ensure that people conducted their affairs without any hindrance, the police had deployed a large number of uniformed and plain-clothes police personnel to maintain law and order during the festivities.

Traffic management

He also said the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) personnel had also been deployed to ensure the safety of the travelling public during the festivities and prevent the indiscipline and accidents that characterised festive periods in Ghana.

He added that the police anticipated that a large number of people would travel to Kwahu so a team from the MTTD Headquarters in Accra would also join their counterparts in the Eastern Region to enforce traffic regulations.

Entertainment centres

According to him, on Easter Monday, more personnel would be deployed at entertainment centres such as the beaches and other leisure centres  to ensure the safety of revellers.
