Police beef up security for New Year's Eve celebrations

The Ghana Police Service has deployed additional officers and intensified patrols nationwide ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations, amid expectations of large crowds at religious and entertainment venues across the country.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, announced in Accra that traffic officers will be stationed at major intersections and public roads where substantial gatherings are expected for church services and entertainment activities.

The enhanced security measures include increased residential and highway patrols, heightened protection for faith-based events, and safeguarding of critical infrastructure throughout Ghana.

The Police will maintain a visible presence at social gatherings to ensure public safety and maintain peace.

In a direct warning to religious organisations, the police cautioned against the publication of "false prophecies" and misinformation that could potentially cause panic or endanger lives.

The Police Service also commended Ghanaians for their cooperation throughout the year in maintaining peace and security.
