Police, COGINTA commission new community police posts to strengthen policing in the northern border zones

The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with COGINTA Ghana under the EU-funded Peace Protect Project, has commissioned three new Community Police Posts in the Northern, Upper East, North-East, and Savannah regions as part of ongoing efforts to improve security and strengthen policing in the northern border zones.

The newly inaugurated facilities include the Gbingbani Community Police Post in the North-East Region and the Dakurupe Community Police Post in the Savannah Region.

District authorities and traditional leaders joined the Police Service to formally open the posts, which are expected to enhance community safety and deepen police–community relations.

The Director-General of the National Patrol Department at the Northern Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale, COP Mohammed Fuseini Suraj, received 57 Honda and Yamaha motorbikes on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

The motorbikes will support patrols, rapid response operations, and crime prevention efforts in identified hotspot communities.

The Country Director of COGINTA, Rev Dr Clement Aapenguo, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to advancing stability and public safety in border communities.

He outlined major achievements under the Peace Protect Project, including the construction of seven police posts, three of which have now been commissioned, the training of 184 community police personnel, and the provision of 75 motorbikes to improve mobility and operational efficiency.

COP Suraj expressed gratitude for the support and assured that the motorbikes would be properly maintained and fairly allocated across beneficiary regions.

He urged district commanders to ensure accountability by submitting regular reports on the use of the vehicles.

The Police Service reiterated its commitment to strengthening visibility, enhancing community safety, and promoting closer police–community collaboration across the northern border regions.
