Police intercept shotguns and ammunition being smuggled to Kpandai from Accra
Some shotguns and ammunition, which were being smuggled to Kpandai in the Northern Region from Accra, have been intercepted by the police through an intelligence-based operation.
The police intercepted the bags containing the guns and ammunition, even before it left Accra for its final destination in Kpandai.

A police situational report seen by Graphic Online on the operation mentioned one A-Tacu semi-automatic shotgun, two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns, and two boxes of cartridges containing a total of 500 BB cartridges.
They were intercepted Tuesday, [January 27, 2026] at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The operation followed intelligence received from an unknown person.
The information indicated that the transporter was on a blue motorcycle and was transporting arms and ammunition, which had a final destination as Kpandai.

A surveillance team deployed by the police spotted the motorcycle moving from Obestebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra toward the Agbogbloshie Bus Terminal.
"Upon realising he was being trailed by police, the suspect reportedly dropped several parcels wrapped in black nylon bags and fled the scene."
"Inspection of the abandoned packages revealed one A-Tac semi-automatic shotgun, two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns, and two boxes of cartridges containing a total of 500 BB cartridges," the report indicated.
The report said despite a coordinated search, police were unable to apprehend the motorcycle rider, and that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.
