Police investigate violent attack on patrol team in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an attack on a Jacobu District patrol team by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum on Friday, January 23.

According to a police report, the incident followed the recovery of a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy by officers on patrol.

The officers subsequently instructed the boy to inform the owner of the firearm to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.

While returning from the patrol, the police team was confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who had blocked the road.

Some members of the group were reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms. The crowd allegedly attacked the officers and seized one service rifle during the confrontation.

In the course of the ensuing struggle, police fired shots, injuring the individual who had taken the rifle as well as another person. The service weapon was later retrieved by the officers.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has strongly cautioned the public against attacking police personnel, stressing that such actions undermine law enforcement efforts.

It warned that all individuals involved in the assault would be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
