Police officer killed in crash on Aseseso hill
A police officer has died following a road crash involving a Rhino Kia mini truck at Aseseso on the Somanya–Adukrom highway in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on March 21, 2026, when the vehicle, carrying three male occupants, reportedly developed a fault with its gear lever while descending the Aseseso hill from Begoro towards Ashiaman. The driver, who was a police officer, lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the fatal accident.
In a statement posted on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Facebook page, personnel from the Kpong Municipal Fire Station said they responded swiftly to a distress call and rescued the two surviving occupants from the wreckage.
The injured victims were subsequently transported to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The fire service noted that its prompt intervention ensured the victims received timely medical attention.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and strict adherence to road safety measures, particularly on steep and high-risk stretches such as the Aseseso hill.
