President Mahama rings London Stock Exchange bell to open trading
President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, presided over the Market Open ceremony at the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square, London, signalling the official start of the day's trading activities at one of the world's leading financial hubs.
The President rang the iconic bell in a ceremony that underscores Ghana's growing presence in global financial markets and the country's commitment to deepening international economic partnerships.
The London Stock Exchange, one of the oldest and most respected stock exchanges in the world, hosts the Market Open ceremony daily, with distinguished guests invited to perform the bell ringing to mark the commencement of trading.
President Mahama's participation in the ceremony forms part of his high-level working visit to the United Kingdom, which has also included a royal audience with King Charles III, a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and a keynote address at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit.
The President's itinerary has also featured an address at Chatham House and a keynote speech at the 12th Africa Debate at the Guildhall in London, alongside a diaspora town hall meeting hosted by the Ghana High Commission.
The bell-ringing ceremony at the London Stock Exchange is seen as a symbolic yet powerful gesture of Ghana's readiness to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen its position as a premier investment destination in Africa.
