Ebola

Ahead of the official opening of the meeting, the General Assembly has expressed grave concern over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Last Saturday, the Assembly released a statement signaling its approval for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s intention to set up an international emergency response mission and called upon all member states to fully support it.

In a statement posted on the UN website,  the Assembly asked the Secretary-General "to take steps to promptly establish the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) and to submit a detailed report on that matter for the Assembly to consider at its current session”.
