Madam Ruby Aryeetey swearing in the governing council of Golden Sunbeam International College

‘Put more emphasis on science, technology education’

The Chairman of Strategic Urban Development Alliance, Professor Edward Ayensu, has called on the government to put more emphasis on science and technology education in the country.

He said science and technology were the bedrock of every nation’s development, and Ghana was no exception, stressing that, “We must dedicate a lot of finances and resources into science and technology education to yield good results”.

Prof. Ayensu made the remark at the inauguration of Golden Sunbeam International College of Science and Technology at Ayikuma near Accra.

He bemoaned the rate at which some graduates could not do anything meaningful for themselves after leaving school, stressing the need for intensified science and technology education.

Establishment of the college

The Golden Sunbeam International College of Science and Technology was established two years ago to provide a wider access to science and technology knowledge in the country.

It was also meant to support the growth of science and technology in Ghana, and to help bridge the gap between theory and practical learning in areas of health, agriculture, engineering and information technology.

Prof. Ayensu further charged African leaders to also devote a lot of time into science and technology for the development of the continent.

The President of the school, Mr Emmanuel Ohene Opare Jnr., said countries which did not focus on science and technology could not develop rapidly, and pointed out that, “the country must, therefore, support institutions in science and technology to contribute effectively to the development of the nation”.
