Rev. Osabutey launches book on Christian maturity
A book aimed at helping believers to become mature Christians has been launched by the Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Right Rev. Professor Joseph M.Y. Edusa-Eyison.

The 49-page book titled, “Maturing in the Body of Christ”, was authored by a former Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey. It throws light on how the church, understood as the local church, could grow into maturity — both individually and corporately.
It is the first part of two series on the subject by the author.
Launching the book in Accra, Rt Rev. Professor Edusa-Eyison said growing into Christian or spiritual maturity was a life-long experience and that was why Apostle Paul pointed out that he had not yet attained perfection and so needed to work towards achieving that all the time.
He said any attempt at Christian growth without the assistance of the Holy Spirit would get one nowhere.
He said many Christians were unable to grow for several reasons, pointing out that once they had new faith, they were expected to grow.
Rt Rev. Professor Edusa-Eyison pointed out that it was because growth was important in the life of Christians that the Methodist Church had, as part of its strategic plan, made deep holistic discipleship and growing into Christian maturity structured as one of its strategic intentions.
He said throughout the church’s history, people had been setting the agenda for what had been happening within the church, and in every generation and period, God selected His own people and prepared them to set His agenda.
Methodist theme
Rt Rev. Osabutey said he wrote the book focusing on this year’s theme of the Methodist Church Ghana, which enjoined Christians, and for that matter Methodists, to focus more on how the church could grow.
He said to understand the church’s theme, they needed to study the Epistle of Ephesians beyond what was written in the Weekly Bible Lessons (WBL) Book of the church, hence coming out with this book that is based on the book of Ephesians.

He dedicated the book to the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the writers of the WBL Book and the congregation of the Bethany Methodist Church, where he is the Superintendent Minister of the Circuit the church falls under.
A representative of the publishers, Paulina Kumah, said the book gave a wonderful explanation of what the church was expected to do, adding that the church was not an organisation but an organism.
The highly patronised launching attracted dignitaries such as the wife of the late former Vice-President, Matilda Amissah-Arthur; a former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Very Rev. Ama Afo Blay; a former National Head of WAEC and Bishop-elect of the Accra Diocese of the church, Very Rev. Dr Samuel Nii Nmai Ollennu; a former Administrative Bishop of the church, Right Rev. Albert Ofoe Wright, and a former Lay Chairman of Accra of the church, Agatha Enin Osei, among others.
