The donation, which is part of the company’s social responsibility, has been lauded by the chiefs and the people of the fishing community.

The Human Resource Manager of Rigworld, Mrs Felicia Opoku-Folitse, who presented the cheque on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kofi Abban, charged the people of Axim to support the hospital to maintain the facility.

The presentation was part of activities to round off this year's Kundum Festival of the chiefs and the people of Lower Axim, which was dedicated to raising funds for the rehabilitation of the surgical ward.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mrs Opoku-Folitse, Mr Abban said quality health care was a basic necessity of life, as well as everybody's right, including the people of Axim, stressed that his company was concerned about quality health care and was hopeful the donation would go a long way to help achieve that.

He added that Rigworld considered itself as part of the frontline companies in the oil and gas host communities and, therefore, was committed to contributing to the economic and social investment to such communities.

The Omanhene of Lower Axim, Awulae Attibrukusu III, appealed to the government to construct a sea defence and a landing beach for the people of Axim, saying the two had been on the drawing board for many years.
