Robbers strike on Tamale-Yendi road, injures 2

Two people are said to be in critical condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH)  following gunshots wounds they sustained during a robbery attack on them on the Tamale- Yendi road on Monday evening.

The victims have been identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, 47, a driver and Salifu Mutaka, 19, 

Ibrahim was on a Mazda Bus travelling from Sokode in the Republic of Togo  to Kumasi whilst Mutaka was on a motorbike from Tamale to Yendi. 

Mohammed was shot in his knees while Mutaka on the left rib by five masked armed robbers, three of them were said to be welding AK 47 assault rifles. 

The robbers suspected to be of Fulani men robbed passengers on board the Mazda bus from Sokode, of an unspecified amount of money and mobile phones.

They took Mutaka’s motorbike away from him. 

The robbers who had mounted a road block also robbed two people on board a Toyota Hilux pickup also from Yendi to Tamale of an amount of GHc945 and three mobile phones. 

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP),  Mr  Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the attack  to Graphic Online and said the robbers fled into the bush and the police have mounted a search for them.
