Royal Senchi Hotel formally opens

Senchi, a fishing community in the Asuogyamang District of the Eastern Region, is small but it boasts an astonishing facility, the Royal Senchi Hotel. Even though the facility has been around for some time and has gone through a number of stages  to attain its present status, it was not till it hosted the National Economic Forum this year that it got people attracted to it.

Tucked away on the shores of a tributary of the Volta River, the 84-room four star hotel is set in a tastefully elegant water-front ambience that, surprises the first time visitor but relaxes one for more surprises.

The new hotel is a partnership between a Ghanaian investor, Mr Kwame Afari-Yeboah, and his Dutch counterpart. It was formally opened on Wednesday, November 26, and has become a new addition to the growing number of  hospitality facilities in the country.

The Royal Senchi began as a garden restaurant in 1997. Owing to the growing demand from customers, rooms were added three years later. The facility was further developed, resulting today in a fully, fledged hotel with world class facilities.

Speaking at the opening, the Executive Director of the Royal Senchi Hotel, Mr Afari-Yeboah, said the desire to achieve greatness spurred him on to pursue his dream to construct a world class hotel.

“Great things start like a mustard seed; this facility is going to be a top class hotel one day,” he said. He said in spite of challenges, management of the hotel had continued to advance and that had seen the birth of the four star hotel.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Agyare, said such collaboration between local investors and foreign partners, as in the case of the Senchi Royal Hotel, strengthened the tourism sector and prepared it for further growth.

“The tourism sector is essentially a public-sector-led and private sector driven industry and as such huge investments such as that were needed to push forward a promising tourism industry in the country in the right direction,” she said.

She said the hotel  which is sited at Senchi, would assist the local economy and provide employment for the local population, who are mainly engaged in agriculture, aquaculture and animal husbandry.

She maintained that the government was doing everything within its power to bring about improvements in the sector in order for it to contribute substantially to the national economy.

The minister urged management of the company not to be complacent but endeavour to offer their patrons best services.

A Director at the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr Edward Ashong Lartey, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Mrs Mawuena Trebah, said the GIPC had been working with the hotel since 2011 and noted that the facility had benefited immensely from Dutch investments.

He commended The Netherlands for encouraging foreign direct investments into the country and said the GIPC was equally obligated to promote both foreign and local investments.
